The Banks unveils bold new vision for Cincinnati riverfront development

CINCINNATI — Apr 14, 2026

Proposed development plans for The Banks have been unveiled, detailing recommendations for the five remaining lots within the area’s original footprint.

The consultant team of Perkins & Will, MKSK Studios, Kolar Design, Nelson Nygaard, and HR&A Advisors presented their recommendations, which include potential construction of new residential, retail, hotel, parking and office buildings.

One of the renderings showcases a pedestrian-oriented streetscape, showcasing restaurants, retail and entertainment venues.

“This Urban Design Plan Update builds on the vision of The Banks as an economic driver for the City and the County; a place to live, to work, to play, and to visit again and again. This next stage of development at The Banks is designed to leverage what The Banks delivers today and enliven the experience for everyone, every time they visit,” Phil Beck, The Banks Project Executive, said.

The project is driven by “The Banks Public Partnership” which combines the city of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Bengals and Reds as well as private developers and firms.

The project also involves major stakeholders like the Cincinnati Museum Center, Freedom Center, Heritage Bank Center and local residential and commercial representatives.

Cincinnati’s planning commission will need to review and approve the proposal for it to move forward.
