Health club franchise Planet Fitness and smoothie maker Smoothie King will take over the space at The Banks vacated earlier this month by Howl at the Moon and Splitsville Luxury Lanes.
Planet Fitness – one of the fastest-growing fitness club operators in the country – will open a 14,531-square-foot workout facility at 145 E. Second St. in the building that also formerly housed Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill, according to Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate, Inc., The Banks’ retail leasing agent.
Planet Fitness at The Banks will be open to members 24 hours a day Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
The fitness club will offer free fitness training to all members with certified fitness trainers, circuit training, tanning, massage and spa-inspired locker rooms.
“It was our New Year’s goal to provide the Downtown Cincinnati marketplace with a first-class, 24-hour fitness facility,” said Mike Hamilton, chief operating officer for Planet Fitness Midwest, which has 31 locations.
Smoothie King will open in a 1,530-square-foot space immediately adjacent to the health club and will feature blended beverages.
Construction on both spaces is expected to begin before the end of this month with anticipated openings in May.
The addition of the Planet Fitness and Smoothie King brings total retail occupancy at The Banks to more than 90 percent, according to the leasing agent.
