Opal’s Walk for Freedom

June 19 | 10:00 AM 12:00 PM

Join the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center on June 19 for the 2026 National Opal’s Walk for Freedom, a Juneteenth observance honoring the end of slavery and the ongoing pursuit of freedom for all. Led by Dr. Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” participants will walk 2.5 miles in recognition of the time between the Emancipation Proclamation and the day freedom reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. All are invited to reflect, remember, and celebrate freedom together.
