The Banks to host Cincinnati’s Official Fox19 Now World Cup Village

Month-long party with viewing on the GABP jumbo screen facing Freedom Way

6 street parties, 3 free FC Cincinnati kids clinics, and 1 World Cup champion

CINCINNATI (June 12, 2018) — The Banks riverfront entertainment district announced today the Fox19 Now World Cup Village, a series of street parties and soccer watching venues designed as the official Cincinnati gathering place for the sporting spectacle.

This is year one of a two year plan for The Banks World Cup Village, culminating with the women’s World Cup next year (2019), where the U.S. women’s national team will be the heavy favorite to win it all.

The men’s World Cup will be held this year in Russia, from June 14 through July 15. Germany is the defending champion, winning the final against Brazil in Rio de Janeiro at the last contest, held in 2014.

The month-long celebration at the Banks will include six different street parties, where Freedom Way will be closed between Great American Ball Park and Walnut Street. Select matches will be shown on the giant video screen hanging from the ballpark. Beer, wine and soft drink will be available for purchase along with food from the official host bars: The Holy Grail, Jefferson Social, Moerlein Lager House and Tin Roof.

In between the street parties, fans and rooting groups are encouraged to gather at the four host bars who will be showing almost all the action and offering specials throughout the month.

Also partnering with the event are the Cincinnati Reds and the official chili of the World Cup Village, Skyline Chili. In addition to providing the video wall on the side of the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, the Reds will also hand out a limited number of special edition Reds soccer scarves at the street parties with the purchase of a ticket voucher package.Skyline will sell classics from its menu during each street party from 11AM to 1:30PM.

Each street party will also feature live music from some of Cincinnati’s best and most eclectic bands, playing everything from reggae to afro-beat, to mirror the international theme of the World Cup. (Full lineup below).

The family-friendly events will feature free kids’ soccer clinics hosted by FC Cincinnati on Saturdays (schedule below). Led by players and staff from the hometown team, including Omar Cummings, these clinics will take place on the Schmidlapp Event Lawn adjacent to the Moerlein Lager House.
